Well this is certainly new for me; a blog PWOAARR! I would've never normally done this but I suppose after Medlink at the University of Nottingham, the lecturer did sell the idea pretty well, so here I am.

| Incubated Ashan with a drip |
My inspiration for coming into Medicine is based upon my own personal experience. I was born extremely premature (24 weeks- meant to be born at 40 weeks) and hence needing placed in an ventilator with life support immediately to help aid my breathing as my lungs at the time were too small and then too weak in order to take in oxygen and effectively exchange gases. I was born at 895 grams whereas the average weight of a born baby is 4kg. The nurses and doctors constantly were checking on me and my progress and also making sure the drip that I was connected to was working properly.

At this point, I know to this day that I owe those neo- natal nurses and doctors my life, however I don't just appreciate what they did to me. At this point, in addition to not only saving my life, they were providing the support to my anxious parents. My parents were extremely scared over my welfare as there were serious questions over my survival.
However the medics also provided the emotional support which brought a little peace to my parents through such a traumatic time. To this day, my parents always say that the nurses and doctors always provided support and always brought some sort of reassurance. This trait is also one of many which I wish to emulate, I believe that medics not only need to have academic and clinical excellence but also need to have the social skills in order to comfort patients through such traumatic times. I believe that any medic would need to be a well rounded individual with a in depth knowledge of his/her specialist field and also a medic who's apt in talking to a patient in such a way in order to comfort and support them. Through my own personal experience, I want to be in a position that I can, one day, do the same heroic feats of saving lives just as the doctors and nurses did for me.
I'd like to thank you for taking to your time for reading these posts and I will continue to post more medical based articles in the near future.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!
